Stand Up for Mental Health, looks at the lighter side of taking meds, seeing
counselors, getting diagnosed, and surviving the mental health system. David performs at conferences, treatment
centers and psych wards in partnership with numerous mental health organizations. SMH performs in prisons, on
military bases, university and college campuses, at government, corporate and community fundraisers and forums, and
most importantly, for the general public across Canada and the United
States.
David, who has depression says, "If you have bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia,
obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or other mental health diagnoses, you're a perfect
fit for this program!" A pioneer in the use of humor to increase wellness, reduce stress, and cope with
change, David also taught stand-up comedy to recovering drug addicts and cancer patients. His work was profiled in
the Global TV documentary, "Laughing Through The Pain" and the award-winning "Passionate Eye" documentary,
"Cracking Up."
Author of "The Happy Neurotic: How Fear and Angst Can Lead to Happiness and Success", David
teaches stand-up comedy to people with mental illness as a way of building their confidence and fighting public
stigma, prejudice, and discrimination.
“People loved the way you (Granirer) found the humor in your mental health experiences and
had us all laughing non-stop. Your work is funny and inspiring and a great way to educate the public about
mental illness. Who would have thought a presentation on such a serious topic could be so much
fun?"- Donna Rheaume, Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Vinfen, Boston,
MA
Alice Welling has been performing in Alaska live on stage, radio and television for
more than 25 years. She started out in her local church, then community theatre, pageants and legendary star
at the infamous Mr. Whitekeys Fly by Night club for more than 15 years. She's a
singer, actress and comedian; and now adding to the resume, a morning radio personality on KMXS
Mix103.1.
Alice is creator and star of Hullabaloo - a hysterically-accurate musical
comedy show about Alaska. Hullabaloo is perfect entertainment for out-of-towners. The show opens for the
summer season in Anchorage. Be sure and show your guests the real Alaska with Hullabaloo's mountains,
gorgeous sunsets, guaranteed moose sightings, eagles, Dall sheep, dancing fish, dancing championship Iditarod dogs,
dancing King crabs and - for reasons that cannot be explained - Sonny and Cher, Bill Clinton, Martha Stewart,
Julia Child and more!
